wiki definition: seaside

Posted under General

recently encountered this yet it has no wiki definition and seemed to be underused.

found related terms beach and coast. the coast entry though has no definition, but it was mentioned in the beach entry.

i just want to clarify if seaside serves as a catch-all for the two terms: beach and coast? if yes, what is the definition we are going to adapt?

and if seaside is indeed a superset i also propose the following implication:
coast -> seaside
beach -> seaside

and if it's a no, meaning it's a totally different term, what is the definition to use to distinguish it for the rest?

There are a lot of undefined, underused tags floating around and more are made every week. I would say that seaside is an ambiguous and pointless tag. The main reason it isn't nuked, I think, is that it is to much work for only 33 post.

yes, i agree too. it's ok to create tags. but it would be better at least to leave a working definition in the wikis. we are not going to be in danbooru forever and leaving the decision to the taggers themselves to compare and contrast posts is not the best way to do it. especially judgment is highly subjective. and that create problems to those who do tag maintenance and pruning because there is no guarantee that after a clean up takes place that future taggers will not 'mess up' again.

regarding the seaside, i think i can 'nuke' it. among the three, beach is the largest but it seems to be not the problem. seaside is. so i ask for guidance from people concerned on what is the definition of the three terms. if at least, we can agree on their meaning, then i can volunteer myself to do it.

Beach is a shoreline made of sand, gravel or other lose objects. Thus it is not made of cliffs or bedrock.

Coast is more ambiguous. The definition is "the area where land meats the ocean". Also there are only ten posts in this tag. I suppose we could use it for posts like post #20649 where the coastline can be seen from above but it feels like a rather unnecessary tag.

The ocean tag is a mess as well showing girls bathing in undefined waters that could well be both lakes and swimming pools. But I guess there is little we can do about that.

I believe shore is supposed to refer to seaside cliffs. It is unknown whether or not shore is also meant to refer to beaches. Perhaps seaside should be aliased to shore?

I cleaned out the simple girl on beach posts and the ocean background posts. Im not sure what to do with the rest now. Is there really no seawall tag?
