Renaming pool: Nice Knowing You

Might as well give it a try. If nothing else, it gives you somewhere to dump a lot of the pictures you've been removing from Nice Knowing You (I've been trolling the edit history of that pool for seed posts).

pool #4248

As you can see, I have a LOT of spare time.

Ah, so someone suggested making another pool for images that get misplaced into Nice Knowing You.

As Popebug noted, a problem with some of the suggested names is that they suggest misconduct rather than stupidity. Come to think of it, that includes even 'You really shouldn't do that'.

A little, but the point is that it suggests stupidity as well. And many of the pictures do involve misconduct while still being on topic.

And even in situations where Person A is about to do something bad to Person B on purpose, YRSNDT heavily implies that it's Person A who will ultimately suffer the most. Which is exactly what it's supposed to do.

To some degree, misconduct and stupidity are good bedfellows. Misconduct-- that is, acting outside of established rules or bounds-- tends to be the domain of the unwise in these situations as the rules are not usually put in place for no reason. Shooting shields with lasguns is prohibited not because of fairness or anything inane like that, but because of the nuclear detonation that results. Using a Model 24 as a literal potato masher is similarly out-of-bounds because it could potentially explode (also unsanitary).

The Yogi quip was a joke, but the other four are still on the table. Also, "You're in for it now!"

Honestly, I didn't really think much of how to do this practically when I started the thread. Not really sure how renaming pools (especially ones started by others) work, if we need an admins help and stuff like that. Should we vote on this, and if that case should we have a deadline?

It's a public pool, so anyone can change the name. As big a pool as this one is, after the name is changed, we should create a new, empty, (temporary?) private pool with the old name and links in the description to the real pool and this thread, to help the transition.

"Too Dumb To Live" works for me.

Being "plain" is not necessarily a bad thing. Sentences in plain English sometimes make great names of pools:

  • "You saw, didn't you?"
  • "How is that even possible?"
  • "You're not helping!"

I feel like those (the latter two, especially) have a certain degree of idiomatic weight that gives them a better quality of delivery. It just sounds strange to say "you really shouldn't do that" when someone's about to top themselves out of neglect; like it's not exclamatory enough because it doesn't articulate naturally for the situation.

Hmm, have we brought out "[Just] Asking For It" yet?

Perhaps "That's a Bad Idea"? Or the past tense "That Was a Bad Idea"?

That would cause the pool to be used on any image that someone thinks is "a bad idea," and "too dumb to live" has a similar problem, potentially just being used on images where someone is just really dumb.

I don't think pool titles being "plain" should be an issue, especially if it makes it clear exactly what the pool is for and eliminates the need for policing or clean up of any kind.

Interestingly, differently from you, I see some idiomatic weight in "You saw, didn't you?" - in my experience of manga and anime, that sentence most certainly always refers to seeing panties, especially when they are only visible during a split second. (like when wind suddenly lifts a girl's skirt)

Still, I keep my reasoning that this and the other two sentences ("How is that even possible?" and "You're not helping!") don't really need an idiomatic feeling or knowledge to be fully understandable.
