Danbooru

Tag alias: great_fairy_wars -> fairy_wars

The point is that we don't usually try to invent English names for Japanese games with Japanese titles.
It's currently fairy_wars on danbooru because that is what is written in the game. We would've used the original title all along if it wasn't for that.

Technically, the game has no English subtitle. The cover says 妖精大戦争 〜 東方三月精, and Great Fairy Wars is the translation in common parlance of 妖精大戦争 (yousei daisensou.)

I don't think "Fairy Wars" actually appears in the game except as a BGM subtitle (妖精大戦争 〜 Fairy Wars.) I haven't ever played it, though.

Wait, why are we doing this when the rest of the Touhou game tags use the English "subtitles"? E.g. the_embodiment_of_scarlet_devil, not touhou_koumakyou.

Now that I got around to actually checking this, it's apparent that Touhou 12.8, 妖精大戦争 ~ 東方三月精, has no "official" English subtitle (check the boxart if you need verification). It's the same reason that

we have the touhou_hisoutensoku tag, since Touhou 12.3, 東方非想天則 ~ 超弩級ギニョルの謎を追え has no official English subtitle, and the rough translation of "Unthinkable Natural Law ~ Chasing the Enigma of the Superdreadnought Guignol" is astoundingly bad-sounding.

In case it's not apparent, the Japanese names of most Touhou games do not mean the same thing as their English subtitles. "妖々夢" does not mean "Perfect Cherry Blossom", "文花帖" does not mean "Shoot the Bullet", "神霊廟" does not mean "Ten Desires", and so on. The "English" names are used here since they are "official", unlike the translation of the titles of 12.3 and 12.8.

EDIT> Oh you and your Ninjaing, 7HS.

EDIT2> God damn, I never noticed that English text at the bottom right hand corner of the game, despite the number of hours I spent playing it... How shameful.

7HS is the one who brought it up, S1eth responded, and you mistook one part of the reply as talking about the screenshot. That's all on you.

Anyway, as mentioned, Fairy Wars appears in the lower right corner, as all official English titles in the series do. +1 to Great Fairy Wars and Yousei Daisensou -> Fairy Wars.
