Kanji->romanized name aliases

Posted under General

I don't know if this has been brought up before... But is there any reason why we don't make aliases from the kanji names to the romanizations? So:
涼宮ハルヒ -> suzumiya_haruhi
アリス・マーガトロイド -> alice_margatroid
etc. Maybe with アリス_マーガトロイド as variation as well...

That way it would be a much simpler task to use the tags from pixiv or descriptions from Japanese sites when you're uploading stuff... You can just copy-paste instead of having to figure out what the romanization was again.

I don't know about other people, but I regularly forget the names of characters that I'm trying to upload, and sometimes I get so annoyed at it that I just don't upload that image. :D

I know it'd be a lot of work to add those tags, but if we just add them as we come by them, I figure it'll fill up nicely. I don't know if having a large amount of additional aliases will be a problem for danbooru though.

Tagging on Pivix is pretty crap though. You might seee Hiiragi Kagami as 柊かがみ, かがみ, かがみん, or nothing, or something entirely different. It might be okay in some cases but it would suck to have people submitting a bunch of kanji/kana tags with their uploads expecting them to alias when only a fraction of them actually will.

And if someone isn't sure what the name in romanji is, they can't always be expected to tell which kanji tag the name is, and they go submitting tags that are useless to us... etc.

Perhaps we could use such a feature at the wiki level, though. We could extend it a bit for characters and series, like it is for artists. Characters could have a field for "japanese name" and one for "series". You could search by japanese name and ge to the character's page, and a series entry would also display a name/romanization table for related characters. Then you would just check the wiki before tagging.
This would be useful for translators, too, when dealing with an unfamiliar series.
