Tag aliases: ai_(pokemon)

create alias ai2 -> ai_(pokemon)
create alias ai2_(pokemon) -> ai_(pokemon)
create alias aitwo -> ai_(pokemon)
create alias aitwo_(pokemon) -> ai_(pokemon)

Reason:

To make sure Ai and Ai2, two identical Pokémon characters, are represented by the same tag.

Notes:

  • Only ai2 and ai_(pokemon) are being used, separately, at the moment.
  • But Ai2 is merely the identical clone of Ai. Both are green haired girls. Basically, their only difference is that Ai2 is Mewtwo's friend and Ai does not know him as she died before he was born.
  • In fact, I don't even know which of them is who in a number of posts, including post #975730. It has both tags.

I don't see the point to this. They may be identical but they are in fact separate characters. Those other "related" examples refer to cases of alter-egos that exist in other universes and have convenient copyright tags to get around being under the same tag. Just because this works for that scenario doesn't mean it would work for two similar characters who exist in the same world.

It may be difficult to tag but ultimately it would make finding pictures of them individually or together needlessly difficult. Granted, these are just low post count tags, but that gives even less reason to merge them in the first place. They were only in one movie and aren't likely to return or get that much art in the future, either, but on principle alone I'd rather not set the precedent.

"Those other "related" examples refer to cases of alter-egos that exist in other universes and have convenient copyright tags to get around being under the same tag. Just because this works for that scenario doesn't mean it would work for two similar characters who exist in the same world."

Fair enough.

"It may be difficult to tag but ultimately it would make finding pictures of them individually or together needlessly difficult."

I think this point actually isn't true. If the merger happens, then we would have these available searches:

  • ai_(pokemon) (any Ai; currently, if we just want to see any post with that cute green-haired girl, we would have to search for ~ai_(pokemon) ~ai2)
  • ai_(pokemon) -clone (only one Ai)
  • ai_(pokemon) clone (two Ais together)
  • ai_(pokemon) mewtwo (Ai and Mewtwo)
  • ai_(pokemon) ~mewtwo ~clone (Aitwo, to the best of our knowledge; all posts tagged ai2 currently have a Mewtwo in them; AFAIK, logically, all aitwo posts should either have a Mewtwo or two Ais)

Naturally, after the merger, I would edit and list all these searches in the wiki of ai_(pokemon).

In particular, post #975730 has one Ai and a Mewtwo but we can't know for sure which Ai is depicted, just by looking at it, even with anime metaknowledge.

P.S.:

I'd prefer the name aitwo_(pokemon) instead of ai2, if any, to follow suit with the standard formats of Danbooru and "Mewtwo". That's why I asked for these two to become aliases to ai_(pokemon).

We can know post #975730 depicts ai2_(pokemon) simply by glancing at the source tags.

In any case, you missed the point. Those searches would find a Ai, but not any particular Ai. It shouldn't be that difficult to find any particular individual character when that is what character tags are for.

In reality though, it doesn't matter. We're only talking about less than 20 images so one search for ~ai_(pokemon) ~ai2 finds everything you could possibly need in regards to these characters. There's no point in trying to change the way these tags are already set up, especially if it means ultimately losing information.

Sorry for taking this time to reply.

I did not miss your point; I was just defending the point that they are visually identical, so they need external canon context to be differentiated from each other.

Basically, I said that "if there are two of them" of "if she is Mewtwo's friend", then she is Aitwo. But, on second thought, that's too simplistic, as I failed to mention:

  • Aitwo floating in the incubator
  • Aitwo magically flying in the dream world
  • Aitwo with Bulbasaurtwo, Charmandertwo...
  • etc.

I acknowledge that "glancing at the source tags" is enough, though. I'm assuming that they reflect accurately what the author thinks (whether she drawn Ai or Aitwo), so I take back my request.

Relatedly, I maintain that aitwo_(pokemon) is a better tag name and nobody said otherwise. I am goind to wait for any replies about this subject. Then, if possible, I'll move ai2 -> aitwo_(pokemon).
