Let's take a moment to talk about the utility and potential usefulness of these Pokémon pools. Currently as it stands we have pools for each regions Gym Leaders and Elite 4 + Kahuna. I believe in it's current state these pools are completely useless and contain nothing a standard search for X character couldn't fulfil, take for instance the first pool here for Kanto Gym Leaders, pool #4268. A majority of art in this pool is just solo images of Sabrina and Misty post #6790076 and post #1313103. Most of the pools are like this and are just dumping grounds for the female gym leaders. They don't contain recognizable iconography of the region and nothing about a lot of them even screams "Gym Leader" or distinguishes them from the thousands of other posts of Misty or Sabrina.

Similarly the Elite Four pools are new and suffer the same problem. Why should this picture post #7159388 of Rika be in a pool for the elite four? What sets it apart from the rest of her pictures? Nothing, she doesn't even have a Pokémon here. In their current state I think a nuke is called for, as it stands there is no meaningful purpose for these to exist.

I see two main solutions for salvaging this concept if the pools are to exist. The first is to create a "Gym Leader/Elite 4 Pool" and collect group shots of them actually interacting/showing the concept of the league example being post #3370259. The other would be something akin to pool #11870 these images show the gym leaders and trainers with their in-game Pokémon and actually harken back to the game instead of being a collection of Pokémon ecchi. I would argue this pool is all you need, but if you NEED to have a pool for these characters specifically it should strive to be a collected theme like this.

These pools can all be turned into tags if we want to have tags for full lines of leaders/elite four. They can work like starter_pokemon_trio.

Group tags are better than the inconsistent use currently, if it was groups then it would be similar to something like jam_(umamusume). Though I personally would just as soon search two gym leaders or elite 4 members together to find the images of them as groups.

Unless maintained though, given the current use of the pools I fear it'd just turn into a padding tag for some character. Any big Pokemon uploaders have thoughts on it as tag?

I wouldn’t mind it being turned into the “Gym Leader/Elite Four” tags (separately or otherwise), even if I can fix my recent mistake with the pools but that’s kind tedious

The padding issue is the exact reason the tags got nuked. Converting these pools into tags with the full lineup restriction would mean that most of them would just be outright deleted anyway with the remainder being single-digit tags. Even an "almost full" lineup restriction would do the same.

There's also the matter of the severe poisoning that would (and is) happening with them. The type pools are in disarray right now due to a single user slapping every applicable type pool onto their uploads, but they've always been a step removed from favorites pools if you really looked at them.

Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but pool #3711 has a description but the criterion for adding pictures seems to be all over the place. post #629429 can be construed as the UK operating Scimitars on Japanese soil, but post #208284 is just Miku singing with a MiG-25 in the background and post #858433 is just 3 schoolgirls with a BTR-80. The way stuff is added into this pool seems extremely random and haphazard. What exactly is the qualifying criterion for this pool?

I don't know why "Invasion of Japan" should even got an exclusive pool, especially since half of the pools is literally just Japanese schoolgirls with non-Japanese military vehicles.

I don’t quite get this recent lust for group tags even when the group isn’t actually a group. That Uma tag is specifically for an in-universe and even real world group being depicted as a group. It’s an idol unit.

That Genshin pool is just four playable characters who happen to be from the same nation. Turning that into a tag would necessitate a tag for all the girls of Sumeru and pave the way for the other nations. At least when we do this for Blue Archive they’re explicitly listed as a class. In this case, some of these characters have no relation beyond being from the same geographical region, with some instances in other nations not even having that.

I know the key argument is that people don’t want to make a four-character search and then have to add more tags to filter out the women, but I don’t think that is a valid use case for opening the door to deluge of not-even-canon tags. Turning a pool like that into a tag would, frankly, be a worse idea than undeprecating the gen_x_pokemon tags.
