Wikis for ____(cosplay) tags necessary?

Posted under General

While I did state that every valid tag should have a wiki these are not exactly confusing tags in any way shape or form so they should be at the absolute bottom of anyone's priority list.

Seems like the consensus is not to bother, so I won't and just stick to regular tags. Perhaps updating the wiki guidelines could include this as an exception to the 'every single tag should have a wiki' rule.

It may be implied in the tag itself, but it would definitely help clarify things if I read on the wiki that I don't have to go around tagging character_(cosplay) tags when I see them.

Then again, that's just me. I like to be 100% sure of things before asking in the forums.

Eh? There is nothing wrong with adding character_(cosplay) tags. They are actually quite useful because they are clarifying who is being cosplayed in a specific image and what's more important helping to find posts with cosplay of a certain character.

Was it a mistype?

I've noticed wikis being made for cosplay tags like ayasato_chihiro_(cosplay), hakurei_reimu_(cosplay) and so on. I wanted to do characters from series I'm familiar with and upload for a lot, but I want to ask if it's necessary to write a bunch of wikis that all essentially say:

"An image of a character cosplaying as (character) from (series)."

A wiki is not only necessary but also is it important. All character cosplay tags must have a wiki page on each one.

Each tag must at least have a wiki page on it. This also works for the general tags where there are more posts but no wiki.

Abstract, obscure, easily-mistaken, or seldom-heard general tags are the ones that need explanations in their wikis, like /\/\/\. ____(cosplay) is self-explanatory, it does not even need a wiki.

This is why I think the guidelines should be edited a little bit to explain that ____(cosplay) tags are so self-explanatory and numerous that it is optional to make wikis for them rather than required like other general tags. If someone wants to go through the trouble of making the wikis for series they know of, they're free to do so, but just know that they're in for one hell of a redundant wiki-making battle.

These tags aren't even mandatory to use to begin with.

I think that part about being "optional" should just be removed from the cosplay wiki. Since we made the binary decision to have _(cosplay) tags, people should be encouraged to use them on all images they apply to, not this half-hearted "tag if you feel like it" thing.

Alright, now that danbooru 2 pulls tags from the wiki is anyone opposed to some short & sweet wikis added to the larger tags? Previously it was kind of ridiculous but now if I can tag something hatsune_miku_(cosplay), click the tag, hit related and instantly get the other tags that should be added in their own header it would speed things up very nicely.

By short and sweet, do you mean something bare-bones like this?:

hatsune_miku_(cosplay):

When a character cosplays as Hatsune Miku from Vocaloid.

Or do you mean it would include the clothes/hairstyle/other characteristics of the character being cosplayed so those can be tagged as well?

When a character cosplays as Hatsune Miku from Vocaloid.

This mostly because it's easy to copy/paste. If someone else wants to add major character traits that are consistant across all/nearly all cosplays of that character I wouldn't argue against it but I'm not doing it.

I was actually thinking even shorter, honestly. "Cosplay of Character from Series."
