Danbooru

Tag Alias: molesting -> molestation

Posted under General

Er, I'd disagree.

  • Danbooru aliases towards the progressive tense or gerund form (-ing).
  • There isn't much need for this alias; those 3 posts could be fixed manually.
  • I'm not sure molester really needs an alias to anything.
  • Please provide links to the wiki pages of all the tags you're talking about, like I just did.
  • Please give reasons for any aliases or implications, because it really help prevent a needless discussion or speed it up should the proposal spawn one.

I think the alias/implication system on danbooru is a great thing and essential for a tag system to be functioning. In my opinion every single consistent entry in this database makes this site better and prevents errors and frustration in the years to come. i don't know if software/performace issues stand in contrast with this opinion but it would be a pity.
is there a previous discussion or strong opinion from the developers pov on this?

i'm a lazy guy, there is (1) no dtext reference at the add alias form, and (2) these brackets are hard to write on my android. sorry for that.

I'll try this in the future, even if i don't think it helps in cases like this.

The main reason you'll see people discourage aliases for very small tags is that we could conceivably do tens of thousands of them if we really got down to it, which we just don't have time for. Often just changing the tag manually is fine, and nobody will bother with the tag that got removed.

But once a post is up, it takes more effort to type out an explanation of alias suggestion etiquette like this than it does to just do the alias, which is why I often just do them, because they usually don't hurt anything. =P

As for -ing vs -ion, it's a fairly arbitrary choice. Usually comes down to whatever I think sounds better at the time I read the post. for molestation, -ion sounds a little better.

Anyway, done.
