For those of us who have no problem with Kana but have trouble with Kanji, I came across a website that allows you to draw the character you want to look up. You have to know the stroke order to fully take advantage of the service.

Hmm. I managed to get 気气氣 out of it, but it does seem to be a primarily Chinese site, so beware, it might be geared more towards simplified hanzi than kanji.

By the way, if you're using Windows XP, the Japanese IME comes with a "handwriting pad" which performs essentially the same function, except you can use it to enter kanji into any text input area in most windows programs.
