Perfect pool purge perhaps?

My suggestion for this was that people should create forum threads for collections just as they would do for implications/aliases.

People should have been doing this all along. The same is often done for creating entirely new general tags, and it's more necessary for pools due to their tendency of being subjective.

We should just delete any collection pools that are made without prior discussion right away. (If the discussion comes later and decides that the pool was actually good, then it can easily be undeleted.)

My thread a while back: topic #9505
Which would mean that collection pools cannot be created without prior discussion.

This was already discussed in that thread, but: That artificial limitation you suggest won't actually stop anyone from creating these pools, only prevent them from properly labeling them under the collection category (which is worse).

And as I said: if someone mislabels a pool, give them a record. You just have to make the interface clear enough so you cannot accidentally mislabel a pool. It's that easy. It's clear black and white.
If someone creates a "bad" collection pool on the other hand, you don't know if he did that on purpose or just didn't know better.

EDIT: I replied before I read the new posts in topic #9505. If you reply to my post, please do it in topic #9505.

I was actually using the Perfect Ass and Breasts pool as reference material for my own art. I don't know how many other artists do it but it was pretty damn convenient for me going to those pools and instantly getting good references on how to draw them without needing to look through 2000 pages.

And there's nothing stopping you from using tag combination searches with favcount/score to do the same thing.

While we're on the subject of purging VIP quality pools, what do you guys think about the Exquisite X pools?

pool #2142 - Exquisite Weaponry
pool #4983 - Exquisite Clothes
pool #5172 - Exquisite Underwear

They don't seem as bad as some of the Perfect/Beautiful X pools were and I'm not particularly against them, but they're basically the same type of pool so I thought they're worth mentioning.

Tags? I mean, look at the search ass solo order:favcount: you pretty much end up with the perfect ass pool right there.

The problem is that those combination usually yield terrible results and you still have to sort through quite a lot. Asses somehow everyone gets right and I was almost ok with that pool being removed but the rest of them; do you know how hard it is to find a well drawn "neck" on this site?

we might want to change them to tags, like detailed_weaponry, detailed_clothes and detailed_underwear. Maybe add detailed_background while we're at it.

That actually sounds like a good idea.
Especially since it was always about the amount of detail, not the users appreciation of it's beauty.

I keep reading this and "pools that should be tags" thread. From what everyone says, I assume just any pool can be converted into tag. So, what's the actual purpose of pools then?

Comics.

The reason pools let you specify an order but tags don't is because pools are generally meant for (ordered) comics, not unordered themes.

Pools are for subjective and tags for objective concepts.

Where did this idea originally come from? Subjective tags were banned for a number of reasons, but the same problems as those apply to subjective pools, so there's no reason we should allow subjective pools but not tags.

Chiming in late here:

+1 for turning the "Exquisite" pools into tags about detailing. Also put the Wings pool here.
+1 for keeping certain pools for artistic references: feet, hands, hair, eyes, flowers.

Kill all the subjective, sexual tags (e.g. breasts, legs) as they are subject to a lot more variation in quality.

I will say this; There is no perfect substitute for the pools. I'll freely admit that. I will also admit it was sometimes neat to see what other users thought was a nice ass or pussy or so forth; No combination of tags can accurately recreate that since being in a pool only required one person to notice a nice looking body part and add it, where-as relying on tags and fav-counts requires multiple people to like a picture and doesn't even guarantee that the fine body part you're looking for is the focus of the picture (nor the reason it's gotten favs). This is especially true for certain body parts like legs, waists, or arms where tagging them is very sporadic since they're not concise erotic parts of the body that people typically look for like breasts or asses.

Taking post #1509443 as an example; It's not surprising there are no neck, arm, or leg tags for the picture, any more so than how it's not surprising there are no knee, hand, ear, shoulder, thigh, or nose tags on the picture. Tagging every single body part that's in a picture like that just doesn't seem like something people are interested in doing. But it also means certain purged pools like Perfect Neck, Perfect Arms, and so on are even less easily replicated than Perfect Ass and Perfect Pussy since there's not really a reliable way to replicate them at all.

That said, I still support the perfect pool purge myself since I don't mind hunting down pictures and the pools were pretty hit or miss on what I considered perfect anyways (including ones I wouldn't, not including a lot I would). And cleaning up the pool system anyways so there are less collections of favorites and tag shortcuts seems like a really good thing for keeping Danbooru as a stand-out, well ordered image site. But all that is still food for thought, and just shows how I can understand why certain people might be upset with these pools leaving.
