Change in tag edit count - bug or feature?

Some time ago I noticed a change in the way the tag count works. Since then I wondered if it was on purpose or just a side-effect of some change.
In the past each added tag counted as +1 to tag edit count.
Now it doesnt't matter how many tags you add, it's always +1 for each time you hit edit and ok.

I've been meaning to mention that. It's weird that if you edit it it all in one sitting it only counts as one, but if you use tag scripts which some times are easier if you uploaded similar pics it boosts your tag count for no reason because it's one by one. You're telling me it wasn't like this before? I'd prefer it like it was then.

Me thinks this needs an answer.
