Battery problems, the bane when you're alone and/or don't have cables. I know the problem all too well, Futo <.<

Wouldn't the service area have a battery cable they could borrow?

When everything else fails just take out the working battery and install it in the other car, start it and back with the thing. A matter of minutes.

Wait, what? If one battery is dead, swapping batteries won't help, will it? Or am I misreading you?

Never leaving a pair of battery cables in your car? For shame Hitoshi-san. And I would be really surprised if the service station doesnt have a battery cable. How can they have batteries and not cables?

Sure it will help. Replace Futo's dead battery with Kogasa's working one to start Futo's car, then take it out again. Using a battery cable is way more convenient, but if you don't have one...

Yep, once the engine is running, the generator will provide plenty of power to keep it running. As a last-ditch method, they could push the car, with Sanaewife inside it for control, until the engine turns over and the generator can provide a spark.

But if the battery ran down on the road, Futo might have bigger problems than what a jumper cable can handle...

Try the Manga Guide to <x> series! The Databases one was surprisingly informative and in-depth, even if the topics towards the end were a little disconnected from the the basics at the beginning.

I think I understand, but wouldn't that require disconnecting and switching back the battery while the car was still running? I mean, KogasAuthor and SanaeWife wouldn't want to keep the dead battery in their car. And I'd think that attempting to disconnect a battery while a car is running is rather dangerous.

As long as you make sure to keep the cable connectors separate and don't touch the power connector you're fine. No problem with two people, one grabs the cables, the other one replaces the battery.

I'm sure he or she was referring to 'Non-demo Touhou 13' in which case, our dear Futo is the first to join the party (Kyouko and Yoshika were in the Demo too).

Somehow I doubt that kogasa has the tools to perform a battery swap when he doesn't even have jumper cables.

You just grab the caps, twist, and pull off the connectors. They're made to be field-swappable just for such emergencies.
It's one thing they no longer provide a toolkit for the car, since everything is precision-machined and/or computerized, but these are everyday possibilities, just like a dead headlight or a flat tire, parts and tools for both of which are mandatory (where I come from) in every car.

Maybe that's a battery terminal style you guys have? Netherlands I guess? Or Sweden?

In the US there's lead in the connector washers that gets crimped when you tighten the connectors and crimps them in place. You might be able to torque them off... but I wouldn't want to try. You'd need a spanner. And I wouldn't enjoy holding two battery cables... If it wasn't a zombie apocalypse, I'd recommend just being inconvenienced.
