Pretty fast, usually. I've done one strip in 20-25 minutes before, and I know much less Japanese than Moonspeaker or ChaosKnight, so I had to look up most of the kanji in WWWJDIC.

Also, I don't quite understand why Sanaewife is worried. Her last two lines don't really make sense in translation, and her last line makes no sense in Japanese either...
What am I missing here? Some sort of reference, or something?

Naw jk, from the pic it dont seem strange. It would be fun as a dare for children if ya lived by it. There are people who have visited high reputation of death sites like Chernobyl and found them calming places.

Nope, I'm curious myself, especially with the, 'Rumours also have it that the deepest parts of the forests are still unexplored' smells like adventure, one with the scent of the graveyard, but nonetheless an adventure full of curiousity.

That only works for European vampires, and only in some of the lore. Hell, Remilia fights with a friggin' cross in some of her moves!
If I'm dealing with Japanese youkai, I'd be packing the aforementioned items, even though youkai usually have no elemental weakness, but more specific ones, such as kappa going weak if the bowl on their head is emptied. A stake to the heart or a .50cal iron/silver round to the head usually puts down the bastards for the count, though...

Technically, that "some of the lore" is the lore created by the Catholic Church itself.

Vampires and other such things were Eastern European folktales and myths before Christianity came to dominate medieval life, and when the priests came into town, and couldn't quite convince people that there weren't such things as vampires, they decided to do the next best thing: Convince people that vampires were actually spawn of Satan, and so a symbol of the Church would defeat them.

Of course, all these vampire myths are taken or left by every individual author whenever they feel it convenient for their own plot. The reason why a cross has fallen out of popularity recently is that such a notion as a cross defeating vampires requires you to implicitly say Catholicism (or at least, Christianity in general) is the One True Religion, and as such, things like "they die from UV light" or "garlic burns them" are much more palatable weaknesses than dragging religion into it. The other alternative - that ANY religious symbol works (if only to people who are true believers) - essentially drags into the story the specter of subjective reality, which is a whole can of worms most writers want nothing to do with.

Try consulting with peoples knowledgeable of the local folklores about the local creatures known/believed to inhabit the area. Know their signs, behaviour, culture(?), ethics and the don’ts. Hopefully the less malicious creatures will not bother with mere tourists visiting.
