Remember when OS-tan was still relevant? I really liked that they really had no true canon, so fans were able to be quite diverse in their interpretations, but managed to still carry the essential feeling of their “accepted” designs. It’s a shame that they faded out by the time of Vista and then with all the Vocaloid craze much later, but I’m sure a lot of people still remember them fondly.

I was really into OS-tan for a bit [my favorite is still XP], and I actually knew a guy on the English-language side who made a fangame about it, though the tone of it was kinda grimdark and that apparently caused some drama... somewhere. This was way before the age of Miku and Touhou, like late 2004 or later, it was definitely after I graduated high school. I don't think he ever completed it though.

Yeah, I know Touhou was already popular in Japan by that time, but it seemed relatively lowkey in the west until later on when people started posting NicoNico videos on youtube.
