Now we know where Naruto's clothes were inspired from. I always wondered why the creator put him in orange and blue.

I, for one, thought the parallels were quite obvious.

Among others, Dragon Ball was one of Masashi Kishimoto's favourite shows. So yeah, no surprise there.

Yeah, Naruto is SOOO DBZ sometimes that it makes me sick to know that Japan falls back into this trend over and over with thear anime.

The most annoying part of this is that they even imitated the 'Dramatic Tension!' scenes that set DBZ back so much...in fact, they made it worse. Most Naruto battles consist of this:

*Random battle between Naruto and Sasuke*
    Naruto: ....
    Sasuke: ....
Naruto: (Why must you leave, Sasuke?!)
Sasuke: (Heh, I look so badass that Naruto is freakin' out.)
    Naruto: ....
    Sasuke: ....Naruto!
**Flashback about Naruto and Sasuke's friendship**
    Naruto: ....Sasuke!
    Sasuke: ....
Naruto: (I WILL prevent you from leaving!)
    Sasuke: *leaves*
    Naruto: Damnit!

Thus, we have another high-point in Naruto.

    Oh geeze...
Look at it like this; Naruto is inspired from DBZ, but doesn't have the things that made DBZ the crappiest series ever -
DBZ didn't take itself seriously (Y HELO THAR MY NAME IS GARLIC JUNIOR! THIS IS MY FRIEND McFriesNchickenMcNuggets! FEAR US!)
    DBZ was horribly drawn
    DBZ had horrid character design
DBZ had next to no character development outside of "OMG HIS INNER POWA HAS RISEN OVAR 9000 NOW!"
in DBZ, you sneezed and a building tipped over and you could eat planets.
DBZ was so fucked up, this one character had the ability to turn people into chocolate and eat them. Same dude destroyed the earth OMGSPOILER.
DBZ tried to be funny ALL THE TIME, and constantly made perfectly clear to the viewer that "Yeah, we know we're cartoons so don't take us or anything in here seriously. Yeah you can pretty much wave goodbye to any real "story" that you thought might come up."

Now taking all this shit into consideration, naruto's serious storyline, awesome (And compared to DBZ not at all drawn-out) fights and interesting mythology etc etc etc. kinda kicks DBZs ass by a longshot.

Are there parallels? Oh sure there are. The maker of Naruto loved DBZ and it's the same bloody genre. But you'll notice that it's a similar formula, and that while DBZ did it WRONG, naruto did it right. You might as well be comparing Bleach to Berserk.

Those flaws are moot considering there are people who still love and support DBZ, even though Mr. Toriyama wasn't satisfied with it in the end.

^ That is so true. Talk about absolute lack of ability to illustrate and design characters.

Dragon Ball didn't have 100 continuous filler episodes. It does have too long battles, of course, but not three or four seasons worth of fillers, one after another.

first off = this pic hilarious

    secondly
i have to agree and disagree, DBZ is a classic,
naruto copied off of it to Naruto getting mad and going kyubi (Super sayien)
bad guy that doesn't die, but stays at the same level of power (Frieza, orochmaru)
    thirdly
battles were just right on time length for DBZ
yeah you are completely right they tried to add funny stuff in there at the dumbest times
*cough cough all of DBGT* and the movies weren't that good either (but there were a million of them)
and yeah naruto did the time skip very very well, it actually got better but in Dragon ball it got much much worse, Freiza>Cell>Buu>all if DBGT

ps dont watch DBGT you have been warned

NOTE THAT NARUTO HAS BEEN INSPIRED BY DBZ.
Without DBZ, Naruto wouldn't exist. I read that the artist got inspired to draw when he played a game called Dragon Quest...

Filler arcs are infinitely better than stretching plots. With filler you can just skip the stuff you don't like. When you're adapting an ongoing manga to TV you *have* to do one or the other, to make sure you don't run ahead and outpace your source, but DBZ proved that stretching does. not. work.

Dragonball the manga was paced perfectly. Dragonball Z the anime sucked donkey balls, what with drawing every little three-panel scene out to two episodes. I would give serious money to see a version that was cut all the way down to just what we saw in print.

The creator of the Dragon Ball Series was inspired by Dragon Quest..
And yes! There wasn't that much Anime out that there is now..

2nd, no other anime will probly beat the 80's biggest anime ever..

That is.. if we exclude that 99% of all fans are (omfg) emo american narutards and there's like an endless repeatable thing of dragon balls coming back..including in your pants ^^

It's somewhat unfair to compare art quality between series that were done over a decade apart.

You guys gotta remember that DB through DBGT are all hand animated, so the art is gonna represent that, in addition its all a series that had strenuous deadlines for production. Animation isn't as easy as one would think.

For that dude bashing on DBZ you certainly need a lot to learn about legends. To get it through your minuscule brain DragonBall Z was made from a myth. Perhaps if you spent more time learning rather then being a moron you'd shut the hell up =_= I think Naruto has friend you're brain. No offense to any Naruto fan and or the creator, but the Naruto Anime was drawn poorly, their image was the worst I've see. Now DBZ it had it's poorly drawn images, however that was due to the shifting of artist taking turns. However when it was drawn well, it has no comparison. Also, you are aware the manga is drawn better than the manga, this goes for both DBZ and Naruto. I won't get anywhere with this statement given that you probably won't get the basic of my statement but whatever kid

Dragonball Z had manly men, the animation was steady throughout most of the series, and still has a larger legacy than any other shounen title.

Just editted the tag, because thats not Goku, thats Goten. Reasoning being, is that Naruto is wearing Goten's version of Goku's outfit, (note the black belt and chinese shoes).. While Goten is wearing kid naruto's outfit.

Didn't DBZ inspire modern Shounen (somtimes in the worst ways)? I mean most modern stuff tear whole pages out of DBZ's book, sometimes out of the anime (hello Bleach manga and the never ending arcs). It seems like it's reached such a point that if an upcoming series doesn't rip off DBZ in some way, it's very likely to get the ax.

I "inspire" you mean "making it worse", then yeah.
