    I don't see what your problem is. All you have to do is stay in the shallow beach areas and avoid going out on the open sea in a wooden boat. It's not like it's gonna bother reaching out with its 20 mile long tendrils just to grab one measly human when there's much bigger stuff swimming around, like whales or the elusive giant squid.

    Umm, I don't think a shotgun is going to do anything to something that big. It might not even notice the slight sting.

    Not to mention once the beast is more than 20 feet deep, anything you decide to shoot into water will become utterly harmless.
