    初めての方はじめまして。いつもの方は例大祭。私は行けませんが（泣）。

    Well, going by the timestamp, that's sometime between midnight and 4AM in the U.S. Seems about right unless he's nocturnal like me.

    Though I normally avoid prying such details, I'm somewhat curious too. Especially after re-reading a previous exchange, where he said the soroban is the only type of abacus he's seen in media, which puts him into the east, Japan-China-Korea region. For which the time zones don't really work out, but oh well...

    I'm in the U.S. (one comment I made ages ago mentioned preferring American spelling for something; I forget what it was), though my bedtime varies far more than is healthy for me.

    As for only seeing a soroban-style abacus before, I think I was simply not differentiating in my head the abaci with the divided section along the top and the ones without. I've seen both types, but I just didn't register that difference as significant enough to merit calling them by different names.
