Well at least you completed the burger portion (or mostly completed it) Momiji.

I would love to have that big of a basket of fries at a burger place where I live.

Wait...liquid intake is forbidden? I thought the challenge included a fountain soda. (And, if the brine somehow qualifies, a deli pickle. {grimace} That alone would deflect from any scale of challenge--I *hate* pickles, especially their smell.)

I arrived at about the 30-minute mark, so the moment of the challenge beginning is pure literary license, but I don't think it's all that far off! :-) By the way, this is what the real thing looks like: http://i.imgur.com/VK8ML.jpg

Yesterday, I found out from a post by the person himself on an overseas message board that when you take the challenge, you apparently have to sign a waiver that you won't complain to the restaurant even if you get sick by eating it! Incredible! :-)

Reader-added tags include "You hung in there, Momiji-san", "Calling Yuyuko-sama!" and "A pledge unthinkable in Japan".

    Today's survey asks:

Which big-eater challenge should I take?
    • Meat!
    • Seafood!
    • Fruit!
    • Ramen!
    • Jirou!

RL question: Did actually anybody finished that burger challenge at that place or is the restaurant unbeaten?

My understanding is that previous challenges have been toppled and named after their respective victors. This particular challenge on the other hand has no victor yet, but if by some chance someone beats it, they get their name on THAT burger challenge while giving birth to a new one.

I wonder if the challenge burger and its fries would economically scale to be split amongst a group of people, assuming the restaurant's standard pricing. Though it does seem to have a rather steep cost, so I wouldn't think so - it'd assume a $15 tab average amongst four, and that's not even counting the extra drinks...

This current challenge burger was actually created about five years ago, I saw it on a PBS show about the ten best places to pigout. A collage student toppeled the last burger and *JUST* managed to finish another double with 1 pound of fries before he made the struggled cry of "can."

Seriously, after watching this thing go down, my own appetite was pretty minimal. Relevant vids: http://youtu.be/XaVoyQZZW6I (repeat from yesterday), http://youtu.be/DkWcL52m-d0, http://youtu.be/wdw3nN9pvz8, and the event depicted in the last panel, http://youtu.be/wzkLwSlhukg . And on that note, I'm off to lunch. I think I'll have a cracker.

Considering that half a pound of burger with a couple bacon strips and slices of cheese, with half a pound of fries on the side is probably more than enough for a normal meal, you could split that 10 ways pretty easily, for $6 a person.

That's actually what another group of people who just happened to be there when we were at Eagle's last year did. Obviously it doesn't get you on the wall though.

You should have alternated between burger and fries, with the occasional pickle break. Even if you didn't finish, the food would have been more enjoyable that way.

Actually, it wasn't liquid intake that was forbidden, it was use of the restroom that was forbidden, which, I suppose, is the same thing in a way, since if I drank too much, I'd have had a problem. Even though Mizuki-san missed the first half hour, that's pretty much exactly how it went down. I killed 70% of the burger in the first twenty minutes, then slowed down and was barely able to handle finishing off the burger. I may not have fallen face first into the plate afterwards, but I sure felt like I wanted to. That's alright, though. Next year, I'm fasting for a couple days, then I'm taking that puppy down! May or may not do this in cosplay, because I ended up getting burger grease on my outfit.

For the poll, the only real answer is meat, because meat is the best! (Though, I wouldn't mind going for a seafood challenge.)

Fasting seems like it might be counterproductive. If I go a while without eating, I find that I eat less when I finally do get around to eating. Especially if I go to bed hungry.

(And before you all get worried, I'm not poor. I'm lazy.)

I took off the top bun, and just started eating each burger with a fork. I was able to eat about a third of a patty in one bite (including the bacon and cheese). I saved the buns for the last patty, which I just ate like it was a regular burger.

For me, there's a threshold for that effect. If I went for too many days without eating, my stomach's capacity will decrease, so if I want to optimize how much I can eat for one of these challenges, I have to eat a lot right before I fast to try to stretch my stomach out a bit more, then make sure not to fast for too long, so my stomach doesn't shrink too much. That last time I took on a burger challenge in Chicago I did this, and I ended up not only taking out the burger, but was still hungry for more afterwards. (That one was only about half the size of this one, though, and I didn't do that one in cosplay.)

I should have said that, just in case I got hit with a heart attack. I certainly felt like I was going to die. (Though, that wasn't so much from the burger as it was from me not heeding the warning about using the restroom before starting.)

For the Chicago challenge, I just did a day. It was half the size, so I was able to pull it off without a hitch.

seeing that burger in both the picture and the comic sure does get me a real fierce taste for one. Though to be honest, I don't think I could take on such a burger even at my "prime" where my appetite was to the point of requiring a thanksgiving dinner to stop it for a time.

I cant eat that thing anymore. When I was 21 I solod 2 50 count nugget buckets from mcdonalds...the 4 large fries that came with them and all 4 sodas. People were looking at me like I was crazy. I almost finished the Steak Challenge in the Texas Steakhouse (time expired) If I tried that now I would be taken to the hospital halfway through. Enjoy it while you can and remember. Always get desert even if you dont think you can eat it :P

Don't worry, it's doable. All it takes is a good diet, and a whole bunch of discipline. That's how I did it. No magic pills or any specialty processed crap someone calls food, but with good old fashioned diet and exercise.

that is what I have been doing. I WAS 260 (and looked terrible...that much wieght on a small frame looks pathetic) and have gotten down to 230 with exercise and simply cutting out snacks. I wish I could be young again XD but hey at least I feel young and that is what counts right?

Quick note: At some point, this challenge WAS overcome, as it's now "just" known as the Furious Pete. The current Eagle's Challenge is 6 lbs. of burger, 24 pieces each of bacon and American cheese, and the usual deli pickles and 5 lbs. of French fries.
