Is this really worth another flag war? It's not that bad, but it's not that good either...

Besides, the first flag was just asking for a quality check...

I'm fully confident that this image still fits the criteria. Also, I've seen a lot of images that are "bad" yet still got accepted.

As you'll hear mods and approvers say time and time again, this is never a good reason to approve a flagged picture, and you'll most likely dig your own grave in getting said picture accepted with this excuse.

Oh, and "it's someone's artstyle" is not a good excuse either.

Anyways, I agree with Arrei. It certainly isn't "bad", but its definitely not quality either.

It's a Touhou picture, so it will get approved no matter how awful it is.

There are almost 14,000 deleted pictures tagged Touhou showing what a foolish comment this is.

As far as this picture goes, I wouldn't flag it... but I'd not appeal it either. It's only OK, nothing more or less.

Boy, if I had a nickel for every horrible, scribbly piece of crap Touhou drawing with 10+ vote and every great piece of art that didn't get approved just because it didn't belong to a franchise the mods like, I could buy a new computer.

The Danbooru mods are a corrupt, selfish bunch of assholes who've never given a single fuck about the rules, nor any of the "peasants". That's the sad truth, and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

It didn't happen very often back when it wasn't possible for anyone to flag something claiming to be the uploader doing a quality check.

Aren't flags only semi-anonymous though? I thought mods could see flagger names, rendering any faking moot. Even if not, it would take very specific posts for someone to be able to get away with it: the uploader would have to actually be a contributor and the flag would have to be placed relatively soon after the initial posting.

Man, I had a Tl;DR Post ready but I lost it.

@ Popebug I think you're being a bit too harsh on the Mods and Approvers on this site. The Mod Queue actually works pretty well, especially for being so subjective. Of course, there are always unfortunate happenings where a good picture is ignored for a really bad picture but this is a rare occurrence.

My only problem with the Mod Queue is that judges are encouraged to approve pictures based on interest over their perceived Artistic Merit, which is somethign I heavily disagree with. While both forms of judging are completely subjective, to me it's clears which is more detrimental than the other. Hell, I've seen many pictures which are against my interests (futa is a good example) yet I would have approved them because I felt they were well drawn despite the conflict of interest.

I hope this comment box doesn't become a bitch at mod queue thread, but w/e.

What does that have to do with anything? The flag here isn't claiming to be the uploader.

And no, flags of any sort were jumped all over even when the flagger names were displayed publicly. That's why the names were made private in the first place. I remember all too well how people were jumping all over S1eth flagging images for quality checks.

Don't bother with Popebug, it's not the first time he's had an axe to grind with Danbooru.

As for the image, like someone said, her wings don't seem right.

That aside, "this is just how the person draws!" is usually a poor excuse, on par with "I've seen worse, so this mediocre picture deserves to stay."

Last I saw, someone (I think Log) was asking for mods to be ableto see the flagger, so unless it was implemented recently I don't think so.

My point was specifically for uploader quality checks, which both of your points don't refer to.
In the past, uploader quality check flags were generally left alone, if not much more gentle in their debates. Flags by other people have always been shitfests, just now said shit is spread over every image with a little red border.

I think Mods can, but Janitors still can't.

Anywho you people need to stop arguing though flags and appeals, that's not what they're for. They're for bringing the post too our attention. A bunch of appeals or flags in the same 3 day period or so does nothing but annoy us. Especially appeals since since every appeal shows up as an individual item in the dashboard.

Basically if someone flags something THAT SHOULD BE THE END OF IT UNTIL IT'S DELETED. And vice-versa for appeals, which should only be made on deleted posts.

What does quality check actually even mean in Danbooru terms? The only thing that registered in my mind when I saw the red border was "Someone wanted to delete this image without a proper reason"

In howto:upload, there's a list of things an image should be in order to be uploaded and kept on Danbooru. People like to argue and point fingers for images that missed them, etcetera. In any case, in a perfect world, all those criteria would be explicitly defined and followed.
Normally, when uploading, an image has 3 days for a moderator or janitor to see it in the queue and say "Yeah, that meets the guidelines" and click the approval button...otherwise, it's "deleted" and made less public and harder to find. When someone has proven to be a quality uploader (or, you'll see some people hint, by "other means"), they will be awarded Contributor status. This means that they bypass the mod queue; everything they upload is posted directly. Even Contributors have faults, and a quality check flagging (sometimes even done by the uploader themselves) is usually to say "I know this was uploaded by a Contributor and skipped the mod queue, and I think it might not be up to par; please place it in the mod queue for review."
Then, of course, cue the shitstorm of people who don't use the system properly (namely people spamming appeals).

P.S. Appeals are supposed to be used on DELETED images; images you feel passed through the queue and are deserving of a second chance. It's an inverse flag, NOT a counterpoint to existing flags.

This. In fact, shouldn't a mechanic be set in place so that you CAN'T appeal an image that's not even deleted? The option shouldn't even be there.

One would think. One would also think that you shouldn't be able to flag something for deletion until it passes the mod queue and auto deletes (because it creates extra work that would otherwise be unneeded) but last I checked that was still an issue.

I've been asking for this FOR AGES. Must be harder to implement than I thought.

Yup. And, to be fair, the problem might already be fixed in Cardboard Box 2.0 making it pointless to worry about doing so here.
