Okay, I am getting tired of seeing Touhou in my Pokemon (and I am guessing some people don't like everything else in their Touhou). But I am wondering, what exactly is Touhou? I don't even find the wikipedia page to be clear about it. Can someone who IS a Touhou fan have a clearer answer.

I don't understand what you're confused about NEZettel. How did the Touhou Wiki not explain it? Unless you ment you only saw the Danbooru Wiki on touhou.

To put it in nut shell, it's just an original doujin game series made by ZUN that got super popular amongsts Doujin Artists. And ZUN actively encourages people to do whatever the hell they want to do with the series. Yes there is canon material in the games as well as canon material not in game form such as Manga and even a light novel series by ZUN. But only for those that care about it. There are plenty of Doujin artists that claim never to even touch the games, but said "I liked how character XX was potrayed in fanon, so I rolled with it." Thats probably the minimum you need to know.

...ahem! To get this out of the way, it is not an anime, its a vertical bullet hell game, or "Shmup" if you prefer, (kinda like Esp.Ra.De. but less depressing, and less machines...)

I typically just tell people that "Touhou is a game about magical girls beating the living hell out of other magical girls, usually with lasers."

It's worked for me for as long as I've been a fan of Touhou.
