On October 14, 1945, Kim Il Sung made his first public appearance during the "Pyongyang Citizens Welcome the Liberators from the Soviet Union" gala. During that time, he was quite young by appearance (legend has it that he had been active since the 1920s), raising doubts and surprises among the populace.
