I'm confident that this represents being trapped by her own nature, and gradually dying because of it.

It could be as simple as her elemental nature going out of control, or perhaps urging her to do something suicidal (like freeze the Hell of Blazing Fires).

It could alternatively be her personality. Maybe she's caught in an untenable situation because of her pride or aggressiveness, and she realizes that she needs to humbly bow out or die, but she can't bring herself to swallow her ego.

Either way, she's trapped by herself and suffocating/wasting away/falling apart/cracking under the strain.

That's absurd. Cirno is absurd. She has an absurd ice cube head and it's giving her a brain freeze. Even as a horror from beyond time she sucks.
