    i think this is from the visayan version of the filipino myth where the first man and woman was born from a bamboo that split in to two.

    There's also the closer-to-home Moon Princess (Tsukihime) myth (you know, the one Kaguya's based upon... and Type Moon obviously references) where she appears to her foster parents inside of a bamboo shoot.
