    Well if reality overrides, then that 'waist' should be strong enough to withstand recoil if we're talking about the 'normal' shot for it but putting HVAP like rounds is another thing altogether.

    I was thinking the same thing. Maybe the base is made out of Unobtanium that weighs 5 times more than the gun portion.

    No, the waist is just coated in Phlebotinum, able to withstand any and all forces applied to it.

    There could be some kind of shock absorbers installed into either the NEXT or the Cannon itself to prevent it from snapping.
