Either that, or the series is taking a page out of the Song of Ice and Fire saga (Game of Thrones) and is introducing "magic" elements -as magic as ESP can be, anyway- into what was otherwise a "grounded" series for almost all its run.

Miki Koizumi's introduction has proven a turning point for this series. A wham episode, as Joss Whedon would call it.

Maybe Miki just has access to some future modern conveniences. Sufficiently advanced technology, as it were.

I tried to imagine this particular series' theology in Greek mythology terms, but that would imply Kyon/Zeus gets around... mating with other women... a LOT.
