You just have to remember the dog from Excel Saga. It's not hard :P
Gohan (ご飯) is also informal, while shokuryou (食料) or 'meal' is the more 'distinguished' form of meal. It's like the difference between dining in a restaurant and getting a grub in sideroad stalls; in this case 'meshi' would be equivalent to 'getting a grub'.
@ ThunderBird and Rathurue Is that so? I thought "gohan" referred to a meal while "meshi" just referred to food itself. *sigh* I still got a ways to go....
