I don't think they CAN. It's a new IP as far as I can tell.

Inafking said it shares Rockman DNA, but it will have enough new elements to the gameplay so Capcom won't be able to do anything, except being butthurt.

It is a new IP and a spiritual successor. If Capcom were that stupid to close this down, they would've closed down Moon Diver, a spiritual successor to Strider, and sued Square Enix as well.

Why would they care in the first place? It's not like they use Rockman for anything besides crossover games anymore.

Official artworks don't belong in the "Wow, That Was Fast" pool, so I removed it.

Like that reason ever stopped companies from putting out "protecting IP heprderp"-C&Ds, see King's Quest IX and Chrono Resurrection.

But instead of legal battles, let's hope this leads to competitive rivalries between Capcom and Comcept.

I rather doubt that Capcom has the ability to engage in one. It seems to me like 85% of what they do is piss off their fanbases in one way or another.

Looks like the project has reached the $900K needed to get funded in just three days! Way to go, fans! If we keep donating, we might even be able to see this in other platforms too!

If all goes well, we could get this on PS4, and (I might as well say this, although I really don't like it) Xbox One.
