Perhaps because they don't have Merlin's natural manic nature, nor did they here her music and get manic themselves, they were affected much more strongly than the off-camera Merlin who I assume Luna was primarily trying to calm down.

tl;dr: Collateral damage.

I wonder if those notes are from actual music piece. Though they are drawn very doodly I think they may make sence.

Aside from durations being strange (look at the last measure - 1/8, 1/8, 1/16 pause, then 4 x 1/16 - I believe it would usually be 1/16 pause + 3 x 1/16), the metrics in 3rd and 4th panel suggest it to be different pieces - 3x versus 4x (sorry, no idea how are those actually called in English). Also, I'm positive I missed the key, because 4th panel sounds pretty damn cheerful in C-dur: http://puu.sh/4TpP1.mid

Don't feel bad; I spent all 12 years of my schooling thus far in "music" classes; all 4 years of high school in the "honors" choirs that won a few state-level festivals. Never learned to actually read sheet music.
