Well, it's the usual "disaster". Finish it with Spellcard battle and just let it pass. And in the end, it's party at the Hakurei Shrine.
    Gensoukyou is peaceful today too.

Why do I get the feeling that the entire incident was an elaborate heist staged by Yukari and Aya.

On that note, could some one finish up the translations please?

I've enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would coming in. I don't regret a single minute I put into reading this.

Do those words (or whatever they are) behind Aya and Yukari have any particular meaning?

These are different sake brands. Shots like that are popular among tourists.
No real need for translation, but still.

It might fill out over the years as people identify more brands.. Then again, 月見, for example, could be any brand just a sort marketed for moon viewing parties..

This story was fantasic and the planing was what I was waiting for ages.
But it sort of feels unfinished without the Fantasy Nature scene to close up with a bang. . .

Disappointing ending from such a fantastic buildup.

What do you mean "disappointing?" This is a perfectly Touhou ending.

Kinda understand how you feel. Tho when the artist has done such great jod at keeping the source material intact (everyone's personalities and the implementation of the game mechanics into the battles for example) its hard to avoid a "and everybody party hard" ending. Still awesome doujin, of all the ways a battle can develop (curbstomp, everyone with equal chance to win, someone dominating untill the very end and then loosing, eleventh hour superpower, boring invincible hero, etc) this was my favorite.

I love to see how a character with no godmode superpowers dominates everyone with just good skills, intelligence and trickery and I especially love to see a single character (or small group for that matter) going against a much larger group with impossible odds of winning and still putting up such a magnificent fight. To take down aya it was necesary ALL the heavyweights of gensokyo to suppor Reimu so she could unleash Fantasy Nature (The invincible hero had to be helped so she could use her one hit ko move!) and thats after Aya had already fought a weakened yukari for an unknown amount of time (and that MUST had tired her). Loved all the fights on this doujin but without any doubt the last was the best

What I really like about this doujin is that Aya has a motive for carrying out her incident that I can't help but admire. She wants to destroy the barrier to unite Gensokyo with the Outside World. The effect would be cataclysmic, to be sure, but that's why her ambition make her one of my favorite Aya's depicted in doujins. This is not the first time that a fanwork has explored the possibility of uniting Gensokyo with the Outside World. Touhou Mother, another one of my favorite fanworks, also tackles this possibility in a heart-wrenching way.

    111/10 would Aya again.

The thing is, though, was Aya's desire real, or was it Reisen's madness powers causing her to seize on the one act that was most destructive to Gensokyo?

The flashback seems to imply she harbored a dislike for the barrier/Gensokyo's current state. The madness probably made her desire the destruction and made her crazy enough to try it.

And no mention on Tewi's punishment. Or is living in Eientei punishment enough?
