    Because, kinda like dyslexia, it was thought to be laziness instead of a real problem.
    Kids wetting their beds? Obviously they were too lazy to go to the toilet in the middle of the night.

    Children sleep for about 10-12 hours, and I'm not sure what amount of time it takes to fill one's bladder with no liquid intake, but I think it's about the same amount of time for an adult, so children are at a serious disadvantage in this scenario.

    Moreover, while children sleep, muscles at the urethra aren't activated, so they can't block urine that passing through.
