The "Not a ripoff" argument is starting to grow a great deal less credible.
"Ripoff" is such a crass word. I prefer to call it "a legal loophole through corporate holding of intellectual property rights". After all, can it really be a ripoff if its made by the same actual content-creators?

Agreed, especially if the IP holder has made it clear they intend to do nothing further of significance with the property for the foreseeable future. (No, franchise fighting games don't count as "significant.")
I can't say I'm exactly thrilled that the "Roll clone" won the vote myself, as I was hoping for something a bit more distinctive. But it's all good if conceptUSA turns out a game that is a worthy successor, or at least a fine tribute, to the past series.

I can see the appeal of the Roll clone given that a great deal of the fanbase was sold on this game because of its roots; it's not surprising that they would pick the design closest to the original if they approach it from the angle of a successor series rather than something new and original.

This is true, and I never said I was surprised that this Call was the winner. I figured all along she was gonna get the vote, for the reasons you suggest. I only express disappointment that the fanbase was so... predictable.
Of course, at the end of the day it's only a minor quibble. What's important now is the game itself living up to the high expectations we all have of it.
