  • Seiga terKaku

One of the definition of the word "kaku" in Malay is the feeling/state of surprised, astonished, startled, etc.
I decided to make this in Malay since it'll be more effective!

How I think it would go if it was translated in English

    1.
Seiga: Whoa!! Where did this ghost come from?!
    Tojiko: She's lost it.

    2.
    Seiga: P-P-Penanggal?!
    Sekibanki: I'm a rokurokubi~

    3.
    Seiga: V-Vampires...? Vampires!
Remilia: Hey excuuuse you! We're western vampires okay!

    4.
Yoshika: Ah, why is Miss Seiga laying on the floor? I'm hungryy
    Seiga: Pocong...? P-Pocong?!

The words Seiga been shouting are the name of Malaysia's/SouthEast Asia's ghosts that has similar or same characteristics with their Gensokyo counterparts

I think I overdid it a little bit... Poor Seiga /patpat

Adding TL to the ghosts Seiga's referencing. Also the slang.

So many different monsters, and yet we're still stuck with the zombies/werewolves/ghost/vampires.

How about some variety? I want to see a movie with a penanggal or a kuntilanak. I'm sure they can be really scary.

    Sure, they can.
But sadly in Indonesia, people make pretty awful movies with them.

At least that DreadOut game, shows a bit of how scary Kuntilanak can be.

Well, too bad. China made some good movies with Jiang-Shi, it's sad Indonesia can't do good movies with its own monsters.
Also, funny you mention Dreadout, I had an eye on this game until I tried the demo and got constantly bothered by that unkillable giant mosquito.

I wouldn't have ragequit the demo if it was that simple. I tried locking it in the shed, I tried taking a picture of it, nothing did, he avoided it all, like an ordinary magician in the rain.

I'm going to be nice and pretend I never saw you talking about that person.

EDIT : It's not that he's banned here. I just personally hate him because he's an unfunny idiot, constantly trying to make jokes or comment on everything he sees. IN HORROR GAMES.
Not to mention, that moron's videos are not about video games, they are about him playing video games. There's a difference. Take Totalbiscuit's "WTF is..." videos, for example. They're about the games, since he shows the features, how the game look like, how it plays...
Pewdiepie's videos, on another end, are focused on him playing the game. He doesn't do walkthrough, since he has no idea what to do (which causes him to get stuck quite often, you then have a video of him walking around for 15 minutes while trying to be funny), he doesn't present the game, doesn't talk about the devs, he just arrives, say "hi bros, today I'll play that game" and start trying to be funny. The fact that he does blind LP also means that quite often, he misses important stuff.
He's a bit like DSPgaming, rather than making a video about the game being played, he's making videos about himself playing a game. DSP constantly reminds you of that by raging, making motorboat noises when there's a woman on screen, and insulting everything, while Pewdiepie makes jokes, looks at the camera, comments on stuff, and screams like a little girl.

And I don't like being called "bro" by someone I don't know, so there's also that.

I thought the Sundal Bolong series were pretty decent, if tad cheesy. But it's not really a Pontianak/Kuntilanak variant.

Ghosts of the Nusantara world really needs more exposure. They're freaky as hell and needs more recognition from outside the sources.

He's playing Tenjou no Tempest and his commentary isn't so bad.

Maybe ZUN will go for South East Asia monsters and ghosts sometime.

Well, it's just my opinion, and I admit I'm easily pissed off. It depends a lot from the voice. If Pewdiepie had Tony Jay's voice, I would watch every video of him. Unfortunately, that's not the case.
I'll try that link you gave, and bakudan talked about a movie serie, I'll see if they got subbed or something.

You should have seen the one in Malaysia, it was more confusing than scary.
Though in recent years, most Malaysian horror movies that I've seen, rather than the the ghost and monster, they delve more into the side of black-magic and old tradition, one of recent memories is about 'Minyak Dagu'(Chin Oil in english), and about khurafat.

All this talking about ghost reminds me about a type of ghost called Hantu Tetek or Breast Ghost.I still await the day someone make a scary 'Hantu Tetek' movie, because I don't think that kind of ghost have the capability to be scary.

It's always the same old "Mysticism is a sin" message all over again. Wish they stop shoving religious morale in all their movies. It's getting annoying.

Hantu Tetek's method of scare is to feed on kids by putting them in the middle of their breasts (If i not mistaken). That sounds Shota MILF porn material if you ask me.

Definitely, though I see Seiga as a Penang person. because, you know, Anak Mami.

    And from what I notice:
Seiga & Yoshika: northern states (Kedah, Penang)
    Tojiko: Kelantan
    Sekibanki: Sabah.
Remilia & Flandre: Key-El (Klang Valley folks.)

I can't help wondering which states will match the rest of the Touhou. Here hoping for the Onis as Sabahans for the sake of it. Also, booze and party.

Thats what happens when you're saddles with old cultural history/mythology. Not to rag on anybody, but generally speaking, older cultures/mythologies tend be a LOT more fatalistic/dangerous the greater the time gap is.

The most obvious example would be comparing the New Testament versus the Old Testament. In the Old Testament, God is a wrathful being who demands human sacrifice as a mere test and will incur civilization devastating-level calamities. In the New Testament, God is all about peace, redemption and goes so far as to send his son down to Earth just to make sure we got the message.

It's a wee bit late but if I recall correctly, there was a comedy movie called Anak Mami the Movie on 2002. It was a well received movie during its release and the plot revolves around a family living in the Penang island. Hence the northen dialect and its relation with Penang.

Personally, I do not enjoy watching the movie. I do not fare well when it comes to northern dialects and thus unable to understand most of the dialogue.

It also has sequels which suffer from quality drop with each subsequent release.

Penanggalan is a detached female head capable of flying about on its own. As it flies, the stomach and entrails dangle below it, and these organs twinkle like fireflies as the Penanggalan moves through the night (from wiki~). I guess we called it here either as Palasik, Kuyang, or Leyak, since they're similar.

Penanggalan is 'removal' in malay, man. Penanggal is the monster. Fun fact, there are claims (and pictures, if you choose to believe them) that depict Penanggal as a fiery, flying female head. Y'know, like Wanyuudo of the Japanese folklore sans the wheel and gender. Whatever the true nature of Penanggal is, they are always depicted as severed head of some sort.

Methinks that the story of penanggal exist during and after the Japanese occupation of the Malay land. Back then, it is said that most, if not all of the Japanese officers carry around Gunto or Wakizashi with them that were used to behead the head of rebels, civilians, and British officers alike. For some reason, decapitation was said to be the Japanese's favoured way of execution. The heads would either be hanged on trees or dumped into a mass grave. The heads on trees was likely an inspiration for such tales.

Then again, there are written sources of Penanggal dating way back to 19th century.

I thought those story are more related to Hantu Jepun rather than Penanggal. Besides, while Penanggal was a Nusantara apparition, I believe it's more prominent in Balinese mystics.

Whoa!! Where did this ghost come from?!

P-P-Penanggal?! Penanggal is a type of ghost in the Nusantara world (Malaysia, Indonesia, Southern Philippines etc). It's a ghost consisting of a woman's head and the organs connected to her head flying around haunting people.
V-Vampires...? Vampires! Pontianak (Also known as Kuntilanak in Indonesia) is a vampire type ghost. Her characteristics are long black hair and wearing all white. But in Malay Language, Pontianak can also mean "vampire" in general.
Pochong is a type of ghost that has a white shroud covering the body, as that is what dead bodies of Muslims are buried with instead of a coffin. Pochong appear when the undertaker did not untie the shroud bindings on the deceased's leg after it was buried for 40 days. Pochong then proceed to rise from the grave and hop around the night until someone unties the leg bindings after which the corpse will then return to its grave.
Hey, excuuuse me! We're western vampires, okay?!
I'm a rokurokubi~ Speaking in the Sabah dialect
Ah, why is Miss Seiga laying on the floor? Speaking in the Kedah dialect
She's lost it. Speaking in the Kelantan dialect
