Mokou is mistaking Kyouko for a banshee?

More like mistook. It looks like she's saying that she heard something that sounded like a banshee. Which definitely seems amusing to Mokou (and rightfully so since she's immortal).

I wonder if we'll ever have a banshee in touhou, i'm still waiting for another bunch of western youkai.

Knowing ZUN, it's only a matter of time.

A Wendigo would be interesting, though I'd imagine it's too obscure a legend.

Well they did include a chupacabras somewhere along the line so maybe a wendigo is not so far off.

There are many more different kinds of spirit in Gensokyo than ZUN gives screentime. I do recall canon discussions and offhand mentions about non-Asian supernaturals especially in the print works.

Here's the current list of "western youkai":
    Vampires
    Chupacabra (Forbidden Scrollery manga)
Hobgoblins (Wild and Horned Hermit manga)
    Magician
    Devils
    Fairies
    Werebeasts
    Dullahan
    Mermaid
Demons and Angels appeared in PC-98 and may be reintroduced as per ZUN's whim
You can argue Poltergeist, Spirits, and Ghosts

I could tell you a Japanese youkai for about half of them that could just as likely be the original of those characters.

No relation to the reply below yours.

Sekibanki is a Rokurokubi, not a Dullahan.
Demons in the PC-98 games aren't necessarily western depictions, but in the context it is probable.
Fairies in Touhou are distinctly western, but there are a few Japanese analogues.
The Prismrivers are western poltergeists, but Yuyuko, Youmu, Murasa, and Tojiko are eastern
Kagerou is western, Keine is eastern.

Fairies are originally in western folklore as embodiments of woodland nature. Touhou extends that fact to all nature. Sekibanki is actually a nekekubi since the head can actually detach and fly off. The fact that Sekibanki can actually remove her head, which is a trait of dullahans as well, cannot be a rokurokubi even though she is refered to as such in game. A hakutaku is a chinese mythological beast in of itself but there is no depitions of it transforming to a human. A werebeast is originally a western idea. But the reason for wolves to be the sole depiction is that is the beast to fear at the time and has grown since then into other beasts and cultures.

If you're referring to Sekibanki, she's a rokurokubi, not a Dullahan. ZUN just refers to the Dullahan in her theme (and the fact that adding neck(s) would have made her spellcards really weird).

She does have a neck but the fact that her head separates from it is a trait for both dullahans and nekekubi.

I agree; Nevertheless, her stated race is Rokurokubi. So, your guess is as good as mine, I suppose.

In at least one of her spell cards, she's depicted as having an extendable "neck" in the form of a nearly-immobile chain of bullets trailing from the head. In this sense, she's technically been shown to have an extendable neck. If we then consider that her stated ability is "making her head fly", and that there are other cases of Touhou characters with abilities odd for their species (such as Flandre's ability), then we can say that at base Sekibanki is in fact a Rokurokubi, but sharing traits with the Nekekubi and possibly the Dullahan.
