That's interesting, btw, I never figured out why foxes are supposed to have their eyes always closed. Real-life foxes don't particularly look like that.

Probably, because there is a common conception of fox as of cunning and mischievous creature. And closing or narrowing one's eyes gives such look. Or something like that.
