2. October 23 1944, Aoba got hit by torpedo from USS Bream, damaging her engine.Sister ship. Has been with Aoba from since before the war and they have been together during the war all up to the disbanding of Cruiser Division 6. When Furutaka is sunk in Savo Island, she returned fire and damaged an American cruiser (USS Boise CL-47)
