Yeah, ship numbering is probably arbitrary.

It's times like this that I feel bad for Naka. Whoever ends up with the number 48 will end up being a gag character. She pretty much just drew the short straw.

Heh, how do you determine "birth order" when they have multiple dates to reference... Tatsuta starts construction later, but is launched earlier... Maybe that's why she seems so much more like the older sister of the two? She just matured faster?

On the other hand, was there much else that would have made her famous? She could have been Yura or Kinu, instead, who have no particular gags, and hence nobody knows who they are... Jintsuu is famous pretty much for just being Sendai and Naka's more level-headed and retiring sister.

I seem to recall that was by when the ship was ordered.

Just a note on the translation of dates, Freddy used dates from the Japanese Wikipedia which can differ from the ones on the English Wikipedia substantially.

    Good question
    How about the twins ?
    How do you explain ?
    Okay
    Tatsuta
    Probably
How do you decide on ship numbers among the same class ?
Of course it's by launch date
    I give up
    What?
In case of twins it's decided with the construction date
    Tenryuu
But how about this ? Atago's construction is so fast!
    Um...
    We're twins too
    My beloved older sister Kitakami-san!
    Kiso
And these became first ship even though they were constructed later.
    Construction.... errh, what ?
    We're twins
    Tell us why, Tenryuu!
You could call it the Atago class!
I was started four days later!
    My construction went slowly.
Even though we're twins... the younger sister was started first.
Some called it the Nachi class.
Tenryuu-chan, that goes for us too...
Isuzu was constructed earlier than Nagara. Kinu was constructed and finished earlier than Yura. Naka was constructed earlier than Jintsuu. As for the destroyers...

    Haruna
    Kumano
    Suzuya
    We were laid down together
When it comes to the launch date, Haguro is the big sister?
