Isn't Russian vodka specifically not supposed to have a scent? (So that they can drink it secretly on the job... the whole reason why Russians and vodka are so strongly associated.)

Nope, vodka has a distinctive smell of ethanol. Only really high-quality vodka doesn't smell. So it's pretty much useless to hide. Also, the whole "drinking on the job" thing (especially in case of strong beverages) can and will get you fired in no time. Yes, even in Russia.

Your usual vodka has sharp smell of alcohol, nothing pleasant. If it's HIGH quality, like some Polish vodka's (Luksusowa, Wyborowa or Żubrówka for example), then maybe not. Vodka should be chilled before serving anyway, to not feel this alcohol. Drinking warm, medium quality vodka isn't pleasant. Better use such vodka's in drinks or as base of other beverages. Or just drink some cola/acidic juice ASAP after vodka.
I don't really enjoy vodka, unless it's good quality. I am brewing my own beer after all.
Well... It varies from job to job I guess. Like, 10 years ago, it was common in my company to drink vodka on break. Now, you will be fired on spot if you would got catched on drinking. Well, our company has been bought by Norvegian one, a lot of things changed over course of time.
