On October 26, 1944, Shiranui departed from Coron in search for the missing Kinu and Uranami. The initial order was diverted though Shiranui responded on a distress call from Hayashimo who was grounded in Semirara Island and was under attack by Allied planes. On October 27, 1944, Shiranui arrived before Fujinami which already been sank by the initial airstrikes. During the rescue attempt, she was attacked by dive-bombers during the rescue and sunk on 13:30 with all hands. Hayashimo's crew witnessed Shiranui's sinking.

There are actually reports that the wreck is still just sitting there, but has settled or broke up(likely some combination of the two) with time and ended up submerged in shallow water near were it was first beached. The area is apparently fairly remote so no one seems to have had much incentive to bother with the wreck. The US didn't actually salvage it, they merely inspected it shortly after the war and apparently took a few objects or documents of technical interest before moving on (hence the lack of any further records).

It's recently been established with reasonable certainty that Shiranui was the last one that E had all to herself.
