Well, of course this admiral was out because he was on a date with some other woman. The only question was which woman, and being the odd girl out from the foursome, it would have been odd if he were dating Haruna that night. (It also sets up the "innocent one wins" trope, like with Hiei getting closest of the four Kongous because she's the only one not actually interested.)

One suspects that information will appear in the course this "chapter" in some fashion.

Assuming that translation was accurate 'update' could also be taken to be said same chapter in it's entirety rather then just the next strip.
