I assume it's what's considered their Green HP before they take clothing damage in the game.

Gameplay-wise they do, no matter how high the enemy attack is, the damage displayed won't surpass your kanmusu current hp. This "barrier" lose it's function if you keep going on with red hp kanmusu (will lead to sinking)
