If I'm not wrong, Akigumo is actually a Kagerou right? Seems like many people confused hername with the Yuugumos.

It doesn't help that the artist gave her the same clothes design. I just always assume they're all one big family.

Kagerou, Yuugumo, they're all the same. There's a shit ton of them and more to come.

Akigumo being paired up with the Yuugumos is a reference to how in the naval logbook, Akigumo was right next to the Yuugumos that she was mistakenly referred to as one. It was also to hide some of the things the Japanese navy was doing, like constructing Yamato. In the end, Akigumo was eventually paired up officially with the Yuugumo destroyers.

More or less, really. The Akatsuki are slightly more different from a Fubuki due to their improved torpedo lauching system which allows for reloading in combat.

All the Fubukis could reload at sea actually, the Atasuki just had a new mount with light armor protection. This was retrofitted to earlier ships though (images of first and second batch ships with the armored mounts in the later 30s can be found) after their initial installation on Akatsuki.

The actual main difference that really set the Akatsukis apart was their machinery. They had a new boiler system reducing total boilers from four to three and producing a noticeably different stack configuration, although this didn't actually make them faster or particularly longer legged just a bit more weight efficient. A similar arrangement was used in the subsequent large DD classes making them sort of a bridge between the Fubuki group and the post-treaty ships. In all honesty that change was probably a bigger one then any you can find between the three post treaty DD 'classes' (Asashio, Kagerou, and Yugumo).
