I still find monocle NV's a bit strange though. I thought the small bino looking ones are the ones used.
NVS-7s (the bino-looking ones) and the NVS-14s (monocole) are both used. And I'm telling you right now, having an NVS-14 is a godsend for your forehead compared to the NVS-7s. I thought I was going to pass out while driving in blackout when I had to use an NVS-7 with my large kevlar for more than 10 mins. Though, this is entirely Army-wise, don't know what the mahreens do.

I'm curious, how can you use that with only 1 eye?

Almost the same thing as the Bindon aiming concept with actual weapons optics. 'Shooting' eye used to look through the NVS and non-shooting eye to maintain depth perception and scan for things to look at with the NVS. Doesn't really matter what eye you use if you only mount the NVS on your kevlar.
