It's broken, so she's just enjoying the feel of the buttons.
After this, a certain gap youkai sneaks in to take it away.

She says it's broken, but actually she just can't afford batteries.

As long as you aren't in an excessively moist/humid environment and it wasn't stored with batteries in it, in all likelihood it's fine.

So does this mean she also enjoys pushing other people's buttons?

If I remember correctly, those old gameboys are made to last. They once found an old gameboy color back then that was was pretty much bombed to hell but it was still working fine.

Sadly the Gameboy SP was the last of the Nintendium(also commonly referred to as Tetrisium in Russia) stockpile that Nintendo had access to, and even it was limited in the amounts used to protect it. So no more indestructible handhelds anymore. Although it appears they've created a slightly lesser synthetic after developing the 2DS.

(my original Gameboy was run over by my dad's truck in '92. It still worked, and STILL works to this day).

This guy brings up a good point.

If anyone has any old electronics you still value then go dig'em up RIGHT NOW and make sure you don't have any batteries in them.

I'm serious, old batteries leak acid that'll destroy even an oldschool gameboy.
