Now that I actually think about it, isnt Tenryuu's main equipment a sword? Why do they need to SPECIALLY make an anti abyssal blade? Couldn't they just replicate Her sword?

It could be that Tenryuu's blade's materials are different from these abyssteel knives and they have different effectiveness? Or that abyssteel requires none of the 4 basic resources...

Tenryuu's blade is made of the same stuff ship girls are made of. That means the headquarters can track the materials. To build anti-abyssal melee weapons using the same materials as Tenryuu's blade will tip HQ off on the admiral's unsanctioned activities.

Because it was, and still is, customary to have a melee weapon to bear at arms, during specific functions.

Previously only his surname was revealed but since now we have his full name I agree that we should.

I don't think trying to give a pretty large combat sword to all this girls would be good. A combat knife can be tucked away. Tenryuu's sword may be fine for the large girls, but for alot of the smaller destroyers, I'd honestly go with a knife anyway. To which, we dont' have any in the first place. The same goes for Tenryuu's spear.

I would also argue that Tenryuu's and Tatsuta's weapons are custom made for them. Here the Admiral is making "generic" weaponry for all his ship girls to use.
