This is how I awoke to my arachnophobia when I was around 5. Except that I walked into a hanging one and it was crawling on my face.
Hence the screen name? Same with me, except I woke up with a HUGE house spider crawling over the edge of my covers, waving it's chelae as if to say "s'up?" right in my face. Creepy little bastards. Why do they need all those legs anyways?

Quite similar, but in my case, i'm around 9 y/o, when i fell into arachnophobia.. I'm at the toilet, when i saw 2 of em bastards, as big as an adult's palm, at the wall beside me and at the ceiling.. I froze for a moment on the toilet, and i ran crying outside, without pants..

Guess we all have a fair share of itsy-bitsy trauma in our childhood.
I'm going to start thinking there's somesort of spider/arachnophobia conspiracy going on in the world. Back when I was younger, I also had the unfortunate experiencing of meeting those hairy fuckers. I woke up by myself and found a tarantula the size of my head hanging from my across ceiling. It wasn't the fact that it was there but my parents made fun of me by standing by the door way laughing while I was screaming and begging for them to get rid of it. Of course, the size might have been smaller but it was so long ago. As I got older it became easier to deal with. I can't say I could touch them but the worse for me is just backing off far away whenever I see any of them. I still can't stand them.
But what really scares me isn't there being a spider. What scares me is that feeling of thinking there MIGHT be a spider somewhere. Whenever I go to bed and feel somesort of tingling on my leg, whenever I flip my clothes or hell even use a towel to wipe off, I'm always afraid that I'll find one of those 8-legged fucker somewhere, maybe even crawling over my body. The fear knowing that there's is a spider on me is much terrifying than just seeing one crawl around.
