    Rabaul Base's Shiba Dog Admiral Epilogue

    Thank you very much for your long patronage. Thanks to you, this volume of the Shiba Dog Admiral series has reached its end. I still have some side stories planned, but I think I'd like to take a break in the project and proceed with them leisurely now and then.

    The puppies are 100% little dogs.... Houshou-san and Matsu's relationship is that of a neighborhood young lady and dog who are close friends...

    Judging from the last line, and the line a few pages ago about the tale of Ashigara and Yonesuke being for another time, there's potential to be a bit more.

    It's sad to see this come to an end tho, this was one of the most enjoyable KC series.

    I'm still taking some pieces together to understand the epilogue. I tried to pick some pages that have some kind of "main story" in it rather than the "fleet story" and still have confusions.

    What happen to Matsukaze's shipgirls is wrapped on the first 4 pages of this pixiv post, mentioning they lived on with their own choices, whether to stay on Matsukaze's base, move on to another base, or trying to live as something other than a shipgirl. It's basically implying that Suetake is trying to say "how they continue their lives is up to your imaginations".

    My confusion lies in Matsukaze and Houshou, especially Matsukaze, since he barely say anything about his past at all. I cleared up a few bit on Houshou, and I believe she's on the same island as Matsukaze here since Matsukaze did suggested a place close to his, it's just that the way she acts almost as natural as the people on the island is the one that confuses me. I might be overthinking it, but I feel like she knew something more. After all, she is Matsukaze's ship wife.

    I'm not sure about how to explain my confusion on Matsukaze, it's just I feel that there's something missing in the epilogue. To put it simply, I think Matsukaze is the reincarnation of gramps Tokuzo's son. That's what I get over all of my confusion here. It's a great series, though. Despite of my confusion, the ending that implies Houshou and Matsukaze is living in peace somewhere is a beautiful wrap for it.

    It's probably best this specific series ends(not saying I didn't like it). This doesn't mean Suetake will stop drawing or anything. But I felt around the halfway point, it veered away from what the series first started on.

    In particular, Ashigara and Yonehara seemed prime for their own spin off series. And it wouldn't be fair for this series which was originally about our Dog Admiral to all of a sudden get taken over and even overshadowed by others.

    This way, we're left with alot of open ends for some spin offs without being too tied down to this original series. This should allow more freedom as well.

    This series at first started like your usual Kantai Dairy, but started turning into a normal slice of life doujin. We started walking away from gameplay mechanic jokes and into more fandom territory.

    Yes. It was why Shiba Admiral was able to guide their souls in the afterlife; because the Grudge was broken, they were given Jiyu, freedom of the soul.
