Poi became a hype thanks to the anime adding poi to almost every Yuudachi's lines. Besides, Poi sounds more catchy than Kamo.

Poi has always been a hype before the anime since Yuudachi was already quite popular, similar to Uzuki's pyon and, not as popular, Arare's ncha.

It did also help that Yuudachi is a mainstay in event or map-specific fleets due to her great kai ni specs (with her relatively low remodel level as far as DDs are concerned). So many TTK are used to her presence.
