IIRC in reality it is possible to detonate torpedoes by shooting it with smaller caliber guns, so probably a tank shell will also work.

Well that's what they do in the show, and we know for a fact the writers just won't let go of their historical data

Kaga and her "Oh shit" face are damned cute. Also, good job spotting the incoming torp, Yukari.

Senshado rounds are made to avoid penetration, so how effective they'll be against torps is an open question.

Actually, I thought that Senshado fired live high explosive rounds, they just reinforced the tanks with futuristic materials to make them withstand the damage. (Which also makes what they do in Ribbon no Musha so insane, since they have girls firing machine guns indiscriminately when there's a live unprotected audience. Plus tanks roll after being shot frequently, with riders just plain teleporting out of the tank to avoid injury when they were about to be decapitated in the last panel. Basically, there's absolutely no way there wouldn't be fatalities if there weren't BS plot armor on everyone.)

Anyway, it was actually fairly common for the combat air patrol of a carrier force to hunt down incoming torpedoes on their carriers. In fact, more than a few pilots outright crashed their planes into torpedoes to detonate them before they could destroy their carriers.

They don't need the tank shells, they can probably do it with the machine guns on the tank's front. (Provided they can actually aim downwards enough, and they'd want to let Saori do the shooting instead of Hana.)

Ribbon no Musha is terrible in that.
The whole story concept sounds like saying no rule street basketball is more realistic and macho than the regulation basketball match pussies are playing.

Or as a review in Amazon puts it, made your own stage and insult the original work from it.

Team Anglerfish = Skilled lookouts + 7.92 mm MG-34 machine gun (unique) + 7.5 cm KwK 40 L/48 tank gun (unique)

Equippable classes: CV, CVL, BBV, CAV

BBs can carry them but can't use them (no effect).

At least no-rule street basketball doesn't come with a high chance of mauling your audience members.

Yeah, I don't quite like Ribbon Warrior either. The whole concept is just irresponsible.

Meanwhile people are complaining the original series is too "casual and unrealistic".
Anyway, I'm gonna continue reading it and see how it turns out.

It's in one of the Clip Shows they they aired early on - senshado rounds are low powered and certified by the senshado association to make sure they can't penetrate. They've got a tracker chip that tells the tanks they hit where and how hard they hit, and only enough charge to make a nice bit of smoke or to scatter a bunch of dirt.

Plus, they're packing the PaK 38. Does that have the ability to despress low enough? They might be better off with the machine guns.

I'm enjoying the crazy Shizuka-hime and Rin. But you can see why what they're doing is unsanctioned, even if certain schools take part anyways.

Well, there was that one instance where Choukai got crippled from getting her Long Lance torpedoes detonated on deck by the lone 5" gun from USS White Plains (CVE-73)...

Probably the only instance where a heavy cruiser lost a gun duel to an escort carrier...

It's the only instance of any sort of carrier dealing damage to a surface ship with its own armament ever... and it may well have been a CA kill by a ship class considered too small and weak to be included in Kantai Collection. (Seriously, the spirit of Choukai must be screaming "HAXX!")

And it's far from the only time something like that happened. In fact, practically all the Japanese ships lost during that same battle (3 sunk heavy cruisers and 3 heavily damaged heavy cruisers) were lost specifically because their torpedoes detonated when struck. (A couple to destroyers, and the rest to obsolete aircraft in support armaments that weren't capable of penetrating the normal armor of a cruiser.)

This was in no small part related to the fact that the Type 93 was so dangerous to target and handler alike specifically because of its warhead that contained nearly-pure oxygen.

That said, a "mere" 5" gun is still huge in tank terms.

You could explain it in-universe as sour grapes. Most of the players are too small to participate in real matches.

There certainly are people in real life talking shit about how they play a game so much tougher than the pros, when a pro would utterly curb-stomp them.

The main problem I have with it is that it's clearly just absolute author fiat that nobody gets killed. In some cases you have a girl hanging out of a tank that rolls over on where she was in the next frame with no indication of injury. In others, girls are flung from tanks. Several tanks don't even enclose the crews. Some of the light tank's only guns are machine guns that are only really effective against the squishy humans driving the tanks or the audience, not the tanks, themselves.

Even the original GuP's problems with girls sitting outside the tanks are nothing compared to the Tankathalon demolition derby.

Well, my pet peeve is the attitude rather than how realistic the story are. It's one of those over-glorified street-smart trope.

Besides, it's practically Sailor Fuku to Jyuusensha (Nogami's tank comic, long before GuP) with light tank, hijacking GuP brand.

So with all that said, Kaga is probably going to finger flick the tank at the destroyer.

Ships were designed for specific purposes, though they aren't hard counters to each other.

well it works if you are an amateur CV, the skilled CV player, hide behind attacking team or, sail to closest defending ship.
then again, what timing to use that 3 strategy : solo, follow, or stand by on def team, is the art of battle, and good eye on mini map.
