"Satsuki was taken prisoner! We gotta rescue her!"
Whats wrong with believing that Ru-class was really surrendering?
On that note: Executing a POW. I want to see more like this out of Kantai stories.
Historical accuracy for the IJN!

Did I miss something? They got spotted by carrier aircraft so they shot the prisoner?
More like: We're spotted now, so we can't waste time taking prisoners, and we can't just let her go.
Obviously, Ru-class intended for the surrender to be a delaying tactic (while the scout plane and her DD escorts run back to bring reinforcements). As for the ethics of executing a POW, well... I would like to say it's unethical, but you can't really take prisoners when you're on a time-sensitive mission where denying intel to the enemies becomes critical, and the surrender was made in bad faith, so... I don't know what to say. Especially when the other side has taken your comrade prisoner and you believe that they're going to perform some cruel inhumane experiments/modifications on her.
Time isn't the only factor either. You'd need to divert personnel away from the mission in order to secure the prisoner even assuming the prisoner was going along peacefully with no ill intent (which doesn't seem to be the case here). Removing even just one person from the formation could drastically lower their chances of success.
Though I doubt they or the artist would have taken that into consideration in this situation.
You know, I kind of waited to see how Ru would get shot down when she held her hands up. Just didn't think there'd be a reason for her to be shot with.
