Well recently evidence has been discovered in the southern Ukraine of a civilisation using what appears to be written language that predates the Mesopotamian civilisation by 6,000 years (so approx 12,000BCE). This is pertinent because they seemed to make use of what appears to be a swastika implying that they are the precursor to both European and Asian civilisations. This could be one explanation as not only to why we share so many myths and legends but why European languages seem to share a root with that of the Indus Valley civilisation.
